Community Micro-Grants

The Students' Association Community Micro-Grants program offers funding and support to clubs and student-run galleries.

Micro-grants foster collaboration, facilitate skill and knowledge sharing, promote professional development, provide opportunities for low-stakes entry-level arts administration, and create a strong creative community at AUArts.

Clubs FAQ

  • The only rules are

    • That the group cannot be something that already exists on campus

    • The club must be open to any student who wishes to be involved.

    • Must have at least two co-directors

  • To become an “official” group – we will need the following information.

    • A brief statement of your mandate. Let us know what your club is about and what you hope to achieve.

    • Whether or not you wish to be added to our archive of student groups on the SA website. If yes – then we will need a 1x1 image or logo to go with your group.

    • If you’d like to apply for a Micro-Grant we will need a funding proposal. There is an example proposal linked above if needed.

    • The NEST on the 5th floor is a space for students and is frequently used for gatherings.

    • Any empty classroom assuming it is not in use or booked. (check the schedule on the door of the room).

    • The Library has private, bookable rooms for meetings!

    • See below for a list of bookable spaces!

  • There isn't one! You can apply at any time as long as funds are still available.

  • Each group is eligible for up to $400 each semester. You will have to reapply with an updated proposal each semester. You will be asked to send us a Funding Report before applying for additional funding. An example proposal and funding report can be found above.

  • Depends on your group!

    • Galleries typically use their funds for paying artist fees and for supplies.

    • Clubs typically spend their funding on club-specific materials such as games, snacks, art supplies and equipment.

    • Granted money cannot be kept in-pocket. All funds MUST go to the project OR sustainability of the project.

    • No purchase of drugs or alcohol (except if you’re booking our bar service for your event).

  • Congratulations!

    • Keep receipts - you will need to provide them along with your funding report.

    • WE DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANY LEFTOVER MONEY AT THE END OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR! MAKE SURE YOU SPEND IT ALL!

    • Send us a funding report by the end of the academic year OR before applying for additional funding.

  • First, you’ll have to fill this event form linked here. We also have physical copies in our off if you want to drop in!

This form must be filled out TWO WEEKS id advance of the event. This is to ensure the space you’re looking to book is available and so we can coordinate bartenders for any bar services. If you have a date in mind - feel free to email studentgroups.sa@auarts.ca and we can check availability before proceeding with the rest of the form.

Second, go over the second page and contact any of the appropriate departments regarding any services you may require. For example - if I want to do a screening in the cafeteria - I will need help from AV. Therefore I will need to contact AV for their support. Get the form signed by them and either send it to office.sa@auarts.ca or drop it off in-person to our office!

We will then get the space booked and send it off to Campus Operations to review. You will be notified upon approval of the form.

ALSO NOTE - We have a Popcorn machine and cash float boxes available as well.
To Learn more about those visit our Services page.

  • Yes! Some clubs fundraise for trips to galleries or studios outside the city. Some clubs raise funds for a specific cause and mutual aid organizations.

We have cash float boxes and square readers available as well as the food safety guidelines if you’re looking to do a bake sale.

Whatever the case - feel free to email studentgroups.sa@auarts.ca with any questions.

  • Of course! Send us a DM on our SA socials with your poster/promo for your event and we will share it!

  • We’re sorry! Please feel free to send us a follow-up email at studentgroups.sa@auarts.ca and we are happy to sort it out as quickly as possible.

  • This amount of information can be overwhelming at first, but it’s not as intense once you get through it. We have templates linked above you can follow for your application and report. We’re also here to help at any stage of the process so feel free to reach out to studentgroups.sa@auarts.ca for help at any time!
