Position Overview
The Head Cook / Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations year-round. This leadership role manages menu planning, food preparation, ordering, food safety compliance, staff scheduling, and the development of kitchen systems that support a busy seasonal operation.
Responsibilities
Kitchen Leadership
• Lead, schedule, and support the kitchen team
• Train and onboard seasonal kitchen staff
• Foster a positive, respectful, and efficient kitchen culture
Menu Planning & Food Preparation
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks for campers and staff
• Manage dietary restrictions and food allergies
• Adapt menus as needed for changing group sizes or needs
Ordering & Inventory
• Order food and supplies through Sysco and other suppliers
• Track inventory and manage kitchen budgets
• Minimize waste and maintain stock levels
Food Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with Alberta Health Standards
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen spaces
• Liaise with Health Inspectors as required
Systems & Planning
• Develop and document kitchen systems and procedures
• Support seasonal transitions and long-term kitchen improvements
September – April Responsibilities
• Provide meals for school groups and private rentals as scheduled
• Maintain kitchen readiness for intermittent programming
• Write a Spring/Summer kitchen report
• Prepare menus, systems, and plans for the upcoming season
Qualifications
• 21 years of age or older
• Experience cooking for large groups (up to 100 people)
• Experience with special diets and food allergies
• Strong organizational and leadership skills
• Own transportation required
Certifications (Required or Willing to Obtain)
• Cook Trade Certification and/or Canada Food Safe
• Food Allergy Certification
• Standard First Aid & CPR-C
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
• Child Welfare Check (AB residents)

• Children may attend camp while guardian is on shift
• One overnight camp program for each child (Adventure, Teen, Wild-ventures, Sci-ventures, Stage and Studio)
