Position Overview
The Head Cook / Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations year-round. This leadership role manages menu planning, food preparation, ordering, food safety compliance, staff scheduling, and the development of kitchen systems that support a busy seasonal operation.

Responsibilities

Kitchen Leadership
β€’ Lead, schedule, and support the kitchen team
β€’ Train and onboard seasonal kitchen staff
β€’ Foster a positive, respectful, and efficient kitchen culture

Menu Planning & Food Preparation
β€’ Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks for campers and staff
β€’ Manage dietary restrictions and food allergies
β€’ Adapt menus as needed for changing group sizes or needs

Ordering & Inventory
β€’ Order food and supplies through Sysco and other suppliers
β€’ Track inventory and manage kitchen budgets
β€’ Minimize waste and maintain stock levels

Food Safety & Compliance
β€’ Ensure compliance with Alberta Health Standards
β€’ Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen spaces
β€’ Liaise with Health Inspectors as required

Systems & Planning
β€’ Develop and document kitchen systems and procedures
β€’ Support seasonal transitions and long-term kitchen improvements

September – April Responsibilities
β€’ Provide meals for school groups and private rentals as scheduled
β€’ Maintain kitchen readiness for intermittent programming
β€’ Write a Spring/Summer kitchen report
β€’ Prepare menus, systems, and plans for the upcoming season

Qualifications
β€’ 21 years of age or older
β€’ Experience cooking for large groups (up to 100 people)
β€’ Experience with special diets and food allergies
β€’ Strong organizational and leadership skills
β€’ Own transportation required

Certifications (Required or Willing to Obtain)
β€’ Cook Trade Certification and/or Canada Food Safe
β€’ Food Allergy Certification
β€’ Standard First Aid & CPR-C
β€’ Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
β€’ Child Welfare Check (AB residents)
