AUArts is seeking an organized and reliable Summer Camp Assistant to support the School of Continuing Education & Professional Development (SCEPD) at the Alberta University of the Arts, starting on or before June 29, 2026.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, the Summer Camp Assistant will work in conjunction with the Program Developer to organize and coordinate the implementation of weekly Summer Camp programs.
The Summer Camp Assistant will support the execution of summer programs for children and teenagers, as well as pre-college and bridging programs, to ensure smooth program delivery. This includes supporting day-to-day operations as a point of contact for parents, children, and facilitators; overseeing daily check-ins and check-outs, breaks, and lunch supervision; coordinating indoor and outdoor activities; assisting with end-of-week showcases; chaperoning field trips, as needed; and providing support to Continuing Education.
What this role will look like:
o Provide basic administrative support (e.g., forms, attendance tracking, class lists, general program support)
o Respond to day-to-day issues and escalate concerns as needed
o Support a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for children (9–12) and teens (12–15)
o Assist with supervision during non-instructional time
o Greet parents and campers on arrival and departure
o Supervise campers during pre- and post-camp times, supporting and participating in activities
o Assist with end-of-week showcases and exhibitions
As a member of the AUPE bargaining unit (Local 071/006), this casual position pays $18.00/hour plus 6% in lieu of vacation. Dues are collected at 1.25% per pay. There is no guarantee of hours.
This position is full-time from mid-June through mid-August. Anticipated hours are 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory Police Information Check.
The successful candidate will have:
• Current student or recent graduate in fine arts, design, education, child and youth care, recreation &
leisure, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Strong verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Organized, detail-oriented, able to follow directions, and able to manage time in a fast-paced environment
• Strong customer service skills with a friendly and professional approach
• Experience working with children and/or teenagers (formal or informal)
• Reliable, punctual, and able to take initiative when needed
• First Aid certification is an asset
• Vulnerable Sector Check (must be obtained)
