Post Content: In times when artists can feel pressure to present the painful aspects of their cultural experiences, opportunities to make art informed but not constrained by identity can feel hard to come by. So the MNG is looking for participants in a project centering scenes of joy in the lives of racialised creatives.
After a prep session with photographer Ose Irete, whose practice seeks to document the reality of Black life in the Prairies and beyond, 10 disposable cameras will be dispensed to 10 artists who identify as BIPOC with the intention that they capture moments of joy from their everyday lives. Following a spring and early summer of shooting, photos from each participant will be printed and exhibited in the main gallery this fall.
Experience with photography is an asset, but not required. If you are interested in being a part of this project, click the button above to fill out the form!
This project is open to artists local to Calgary, with a preference for AUArts students and alumni.
Applicants will be contacted via email on April 20th.
The Prep Session with Ose Irete will take place on March 8th at 12pm on the AUArts campus. Applicants must be available to attend this session.
