The New Gallery (TNG) is seeking new Board members to join our Board of Directors. There are many exciting opportunities to be actively involved in The New Gallery as a board member, including leading the strategic direction of the organization, fundraising, and artistic programming.

TNG is looking for people with the following areas of expertise to contribute to our strategic direction and governance: governance, law, finance, sponsorship development, and/or fundraising. As always, TNG’s Board is also seeking practising artists to join the Board, which includes visual artists, craftspersons, musicians, designers, drag artists, and dancers.
Role and Responsibilities

The role of the Board of Directors of The New Gallery (the Board) is to govern the organization in accordance with the Bylaws and applicable laws, to establish the organization's direction and monitor its performance. All Board Members have a responsibility to carry out the organization's Vision and Mission while adhering to all Policies, Procedures and By-Laws.

The New Gallery’s board is a Working Board with 5 standing committees: Equity, Fundraising, Governance, Human Resources and Programming and Communications.

Commitment + responsibilities
A member of the Board of The New Gallery agrees to:
- Govern the organization in accordance with policies, procedures and bylaws. Carry out the organization’s vision and mission with a commitment to equity and anti-racist practices as outlined by TNG’s Strategic Plan and Future Ancestors Strategic Report.

- Participate as a member of the board for a two-year term (estimated monthly time commitment is ideally 3 hours of meeting time, and 5 hours of work). This is around 2.5 hours weekly. This workflow will fluctuate with the seasons and particular projects the Board takes on.

- Provide strategic leadership - develop and approve the vision, mission, strategic direction, and values of The New Gallery. Prepare for Board and Committee meetings and contribute to decision making processes.

- Attend Board meetings and annual planning meetings, and participate on the Equity committee which meets quarterly and at least one additional committee.

- Participate in board development activities: orientation program, on-going Board development activities and individual growth and development opportunities as outlined in the Board Development policy.

- Attend TNG special events as individual schedules permit. Act as a representative and advocate of the organization.

- Demonstrate commitment to the growth and sustainability of the organization by making a personal donation through an annual membership.

You may not be everything to everyone, but you are probably some of these:

- You have a demonstrated passion for artist-run culture and contemporary art.
- You have demonstrated experience in several key competencies which may include: leadership, fundraising, finance, human resources, communications, governance, community/volunteerism, community investment, membership and customer service, corporate or nonprofit executive experience and strategic planning.
- You possess strengths that enable working effectively within a team and love working collaboratively.
- You have a willingness to engage in fundraising initiatives, including Casino Fundraisers and gaining in-kind support.
- You are committed to ensuring equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the organization.
- Art community experience including being an artist is considered an asset.
- Past voluntary committee or board experience is considered an asset.

Letters of intent can be supplemented with a resume or CV.

Selected candidates will be invited to an open house meet and greet with members of TNG’s Board of Directors to familiarize applicants with the Board.

Application reviews will commence on May 31, 2025. Letters of intent are due June 18, 2025.
