The New Gallery (
TNG), a not-for-profit centre for contemporary art in Calgary’s Chinatown, is seeking applications for a Gallery Assistant. At TNG, we strive to provide opportunities and venues for artists that foster social and political creative practices, while engaging and educating local communities through artist-run culture and contemporary art.

The role of the Gallery Assistant is to support the Gallery staff in the various facets of the Gallery’s operations. The Gallery Assistant will be working under the direction of TNG’s Co-Directors. Training specific to the role and Gallery will be provided.

Qualifications
Candidates should be enrolled in Studio Arts, Curatorial Studies, Art History, or the equivalent, be passionate about the Calgary arts and culture sector and have a strong interest in and knowledge of contemporary art and the culture of artist-run centres.

Candidates must be comfortable working with a Mac operating system and familiar with Microsoft programs (particularly, Word and Excel) , the Adobe Creative Suite, website maintenance, and social media. The successful applicant must also be highly organized and have strong written and communication skills.

Basic responsibilities include:
Assist in the installation and striking of all exhibitions
Assist in the documentation of all exhibitions and events
Assist in the archiving of active and inactive materials pertaining to programming
Assist in fund development
Adhere to all current policies and procedures
Aid staff in volunteer recruitment
Provide the Board of Directors with accurate monthly reports concerning the Gallery Assistant’s activities
Attend Board Meetings, visioning sessions, and workshops as required

Eligibility
Criteria

be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
have been register
ed as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act6; and
be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations. This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job.
