Governance

Governance

A large component AUArts SA is is student-led governance. Our governance is comprised of two student-elected bodies - the Executive Committee (EC) and the Student Leadership Council (SLC).

The EC and SLC are fully populated by AUArts Students, and their role is to advocate for the AUArts student body and bring relevant issues to the attention of AUArts administration. They also make decisions via vote on AUArts SA policies, programming, and services.

Your
2023-2024 Executive Committee!

The Executive Committee (EC) manages the affairs of AUArts Students' Association in accordance with the decisions of the Student Leadership Council, and with the bylaws of the Association.

  • Juli Song

    she/her • studentlife.sa@auarts.ca

Hello everyone! I’m Juli Song (She/her) and I am a 5th year ceramic major and fiber minor at AUArts. As a student here, I have been making work that represents my Queer Asian identity through performances and installation. Although I work mainly in the ceramic studio, most of my work is multimedia using audio and video mediums. When I am not making my more conceptual art. I love to dedicate myself to making cute frogs and critters. You can find me working in the studio and around campus. Always feel free to come and say hi if you see me. Because my art practice led me to become heavily invested and actively involved with community building projects on campus, I ran for the position of VPSL.

My goal within my position is to be a vocal advocate for all members of our community. As the Chair of the SA’s Events Committee, with the programs and events we have planned for the school year, I want to focus on sustainability in supporting students and fostering professional and personal growth. As someone proudly a part of the Queer AAPI community, I also want to prioritize marginalized members of our student body to form strong support networks and collaborative community building. I am excited to work with all of the amazingly creative, talented and diverse folks on campus! As VPSL, I encourage everyone to engage with our programs, no matter how big or small. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or would like to meet with me please send me an email or stop by the SA office.

  • Quynn Covey

    she/her • academic.sa@auarts.ca

Hi everybody! My name is Quynn Covey (she/her) and I’m currently in my 4th year! As a glass major who’s also pursuing a minor in ceramics, I spend most of my time during the semester in the basement working either in the hotshop or on the wheel. Please, feel welcome to come by and chat if you ever see me out and about in the studios. My art practice right now is all about experimentation, pushing my own boundaries, and finding unity and balance between my different passions. I love to create all things kitschy, colourful, and cute.

My primary goal coming into this role is to foster a more open and transparent relationship between our students and administration. I want to support all of our students without judgment or bias, and serve as a touchpoint of communication that makes each individual feel heard in an institution where many students don’t feel like they have a voice. I don’t want any student to feel like they can’t have an impact and I strongly encourage anyone who’s interested in the SA to come to a meeting, run for SLC, participate in the Hear/d Residency, or even just to get in touch to chat!

I’m both grateful and excited to begin this position and to get the opportunity to advocate for our skilled, diverse, and innovative student body. More than anything, I want every student to feel welcome to reach out to my email or to come find me in the studio or SA office with any questions or concerns you have throughout the school year. I want to hear your thoughts/opinions and I’m always looking for new ideas and ways to better advocate for as many of our students as possible. I look forward to hearing from you all and hope that I can help make your time at AUArts feel safer, less stressful, and more rewarding.

I'm a fourth year ceramics major and I'm doing a minor in fibre! My role within the SA focuses on external advocacy, so a lot of my work happens with the Alberta Students Executive Council and the Calgary Students Alliance. My home studio is located in room 122 in the basement and if you ever need to come find me on campus that's the best place to look! My studio is hard to miss, I'm at the back by the windows and I have pink Christmas lights hanging over my desk :)
