JOB DESCRIPTION 

Show + Sale Assistant (2024/25)

Summary: 

Working along with the Show + Sale Coordinator, the Show + Sale Assistant supports the Coordinator and Department Representatives in the development and execution of the AUArts SA Show + Sale’s Winter Market. This role is a hybrid part-time position with on-campus hours expected during event times. The hours range between 5-10hrs/week and will increase to a maximum of 30/h per week during event times. Priority will be given to current AUArts students with three (3) or fewer classes.  

The assistant will be primarily responsible for artist relations (70% of the role), which includes student-centered activities such as jurying, mentorship, workshop programming, inventory, and internal communications. They will take a leadership position on important decisions such as jury and workshop selection and hiring of Department Representatives. They will oversee a group of 4-5 Department Representatives to help execute student activities within Show + Sale, and report weekly to the Show + Sale Coordinator. The Assistant will also take on general administrative tasks assigned by the coordinator (30% of the role) such as: general correspondence, event support and collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator.

 The ideal candidate will be highly organized, a self-starter who can work solo and, in a team, have basic experience with selling artwork, have great communication skills, and have an interest in arts and events management. Experience with in-person market platforms is an asset, but not mandatory.

 

Role: 

  • This is a part-time hourly contract position from August 2024 to May 2025, starting at $16.50/hr.

  • Expected hours will range between 5-10 hours per week during the off season, up to approximately 30hrs per week during set-up and event times.

  • Set up for Show + Sale Winter Market 2024 will be during Fall 2024 reading break in November, with the event happening on November 15 and November 16, with tear down happening.

  • Schedule to be determined with Show + Sale Coordinator 

Responsibilities: 

  • Support the development and coordination of Show + Sale, specifically artist relations, which includes student-centered activities such as jurying, mentorship, workshop programming, inventory, and internal communications.

  • Act as the main point of contact for seasonal Department Representatives and their student cohorts.

  • Attend weekly team meetings with the Coordinator, Department Representatives, and Programs Manager.

  • Share Show + Sale guidelines, deadlines, announcements, and invitations with participating students.

  • Propose jurors and workshop instructors and contact external organizations for collaboration on Show + Sale programming.

  • Attend and lead Show + Sale information sessions and public facing events

  • Act as part of the hiring committee for seasonal part-time staff, including the Volunteer Coordinator, Technician, and Department Representatives

  • Acquire and provide feedback regarding future Show + Sale operations  

Qualifications:  

  • Self-motivated individual who can effectively prioritize 

  • Ability to take initiative for coordinating and carrying out assigned projects 

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with close attention to detail and function 

  • Knowledge of technical processes for 1 or more visual mediums 

  • Previous Show + Sale experience as an artist or Department Representative is considered an asset

  • Previous experience with event planning is an asset 

  • Previous experience with packaging art of various mediums is an asset
