I hope you are having a fantastic semester so far and are enjoying some crisp autumn weather! 🍁 My name is Jaden L. Phillips (they/them), I am the Youth Engagement Coordinator at Climate Reality Project Canada and an MSc student studying climate change communication at the University of British Columbia.☀️
We are excited to announce that Climate Reality Project Canada is now inviting new students & groups to join our Campus Corps program this school year, and we think Alberta University of the Arts would be an awesome campus to have join the network! 🌈🐝🚲🌊🌲 As young people, we recognize that climate change will disproportionately impact our generation and those to come. Furthermore, as post-secondary students, we, YOU, are uniquely apt to channel that awareness into climate action mobilization on your very campus through this initiative! ☀️
ABOUT THE CAMPUS CORPS PROGRAM
The Campus Corps is a dynamic, student-led initiative that equips individuals like you with the tools, networks, and skills to take meaningful action to combat the climate crisis right on your college or university campus. There are an awesome 24 active campus chapters in the U.S., and that momentum is mobilizing a growing network here in Canada as well!
The Key Objectives
- Bring academic institutions to DIVEST from fossil fuels.
- Create greener & more sustainable campuses (notably in terms of ENERGY SOURCING).
- Ensure that universities and colleges significantly integrate climate justice into their CURRICULUMS.
Support & Structure: How Does it Work?
- Campus Corps Chapters and other participating students receive support from Climate Reality Canada through free resources + support for effective & impactful advocacy + for building relationships with peers, faculty & staff.
- This program empowers students by providing them with the tools, networks, and skills necessary to lead successful campaigns for meaningful change, on campus and beyond.

Whether you are a solo student hoping to feel less isolated, or a group of students ready to kick-start a campaign, we have the tools and resources to support you in your climate journey! We welcome students at all levels of organizing/advocacy experience and have different types of resources, programs, and tailored support for each.
How Can You Get Involved?
- To kick things off, we would be delighted to host an INFORMATION SESSION – “Climate 101 + How to Mobilize for Climate Action on Campus” – where you can learn more about the program, ask questions, and meet fellow students interested in climate action.
- We are happy to present to a group of interested students (perhaps from the same student club, or not) or even just to you (an individual student) if you’re curious but don’t have any student pals in the climate space just yet!

NATIONAL CLIMATE LEAGUE: CAMPUS EDITION
Whatever your situation or needs, we’d like to get Campus Corps Chapters – and even individual students outside the program - participating in a brand-new annual initiative we’re launching this school year: National Climate League: Campus Edition (NCLC).
The NCLC is a NEW annual campaign created to collect information on sustainability progress on campuses (colleges, CÉGEPs, and universities) across Canada. The NCLC will allow for benchmarking sustainability practices & initiatives to promote transparency and create an effective tool for on-campus climate action, similar to our NCL, but across Canadian campuses instead of municipalities. We provide a structured approach that includes:
#1. Training for the collection of data and stories: recorded webinar, to be attended live or watched later.
#2. Virtual events for data and story collection, allowing for optional group participation.
#3. Supportive weekly/monthly meetings depending on need & capacity.
#4. Consolidation, verification, and publication of the data and stories in a Standings document.
#5. Campaign support to empower students to leverage the Standings as a lobbying tool.
Standings from the NCLC become a powerful lobbying tool or framework for action, building a strong foundation for future campus campaigns.
