AUArts Students’ Association: Technician  

Reporting to the Programs Manager, the SA Technician is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of artwork handling, installation and display are carried out in an efficient and professional manner to support the operations of the Marion Nicoll Gallery and Show + Sale.  

  

Employment Type:

  • Part-time, hourly wage (approx. 10 hours per week; workload will ebb and flow depending on programming requirements; increased workload in November for Show + Sale)   

  •  Hourly Pay Range: $15 - $18 per hour depending on experience 

  • Contract Length: October 2022 – May 2023  

Core Objectives  

  • Support the Marion Nicoll Gallery in biweekly installs and de-installs of the Main Space and LRT Space from October 2023 – April 2024  

  • Support Show + Sale inventory management, and the installation, rotation, and de-install of inventory in November 2023  

  • Prepare various spaces for exhibition, including moving and leveling plinths and walls, spackling and painting  

  • Use power tools appropriately 

  • Responsibly handle and move art, construct supports for two- and three-dimensional work. 

  • Assist in the installation of digital media, multimedia and electronics  

  • Help maintain tools, equipment, and storage spaces  

  • Assist in exhibition lighting design  

  

Please note this position will require successful applicants to be available for 25 hours or more of in-person work at the AUArts campus during Reading Week (November 13-19, 2023) to support the Show + Sale Winter Market.  

  

Qualifications and Skills  

  • Knowledge of technical processes for one or more visual mediums  

  • Experience working in a gallery setting in a technician/support role considered an asset  

  • Working knowledge of and familiarity with tools, including power drills 

  • Working knowledge of artistic and creative production, materials, handling and display of artwork  

  • Time management and ability to balance multiple priorities  

  • Ability to take initiative in coordinating and carrying out assigned projects  

  • Ability to work equitably with all students and provide support as and when required  

  • Attention to detail 

  • Familiarity installing window vinyl considered an asset
