3. Write a campaign/platform statement (max 300 words)

Welcome ACADSA Students!
Another year of studies at the Alberta College of Art + Design begins! This is a year of growth, as ACAD garnered it’s University Status in Spring of 2018. Stay tuned this Fall for information on campus as to what this growth entails, it’s a very exciting time! Those of you who are first year students, we are delighted to have you on campus. My name is Simone Saunders and I am the Director of Leadership & Governance for the ACAD Students’ Association (ACADSA).
ACADSA is an organization comprised almost entirely of current students, funded by students, and operating for students. We advocate on behalf of students to our ACAD admin and faculty in various councils and committees. We provide programs and services for students to support you during your time here. We famously run the bi-annual ACADSA Show and Sale and Hear/d Student Artist Residency which offer students professional development opportunities! We also provide various wellness and community building events, gallery opportunities, student group facilitation, and your health and dental coverage. This summer, ACADSA’s Executive Committee has been working diligently on a strategic plan for the upcoming year to ensure that you are creating on a safe and lively campus. Our By-Elections are coming up! We have many positions we are still looking to fill within our Student Leadership Committee (SLC). If you are interested in holding a position to represent your department, please check out the available positions on our website: www.acadsa.ca/elections/. This year our commitment is to providing a positive and productive voice amongst the student body. By engaging with students, hosting bi-weekly meetings and promoting our community on social media, the SLC helps to bridge the gap between our varying departments! The SLC looks fantastic on your resume, pays you to come to meetings and is a reasonable workload to achieve on top of your already busy schedule. The official notice of elections has gone out and nomination packages are due on September 23rd. We look forward to your interest in running!

Notice of By-Elections
Hello ACAD students. Welcome back to all returning students and a warm welcome to all new and first year students!
It’s time for the ACAD Students’ Association (ACADSA) By-Elections. We still have a few positions to fill on our Student Leadership Council (aka SLC).
What do Student Leadership Council Representatives do? They contribute to ACADSA by:
- Representing the student voice from their department area on arising issues
- Ensuring that the Association’s affairs are conducted according to the governing documents of the Association
- Promoting the general welfare of ACAD students in alignment with ACADSA’s mission, vision, and mandate
- Providing guidance on the direction and strategic growth of the Association

Hear/d Program Mentor
POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Alberta College of Art + Design Students’ Association Health + Wellness Program Manager (“HWPM”) and with support of other ACADSA staff, the Hear/d Mentor is responsible for acting as a leader within the ACAD community while supporting the student participants of the Hear/d Residency program.
The Hear/d residency is a 3-month long student-run artist residency held on campus. This year the program will focus on the theme of resiliency, to explore the process of dealing with a variety of mental health issues many post-secondary students face. Given this theme, participants are invited to explore and share their journeys in a creative and innovative way. Through group discussions, reflection, individual studio time, critiques, and workshops, this residency will provide a platform for a diverse array of creative output. The residency will aim to raise awareness towards the health + well being of post-secondary students, while also connecting members from different disciples who will help to build a stronger sense of inclusion and comradery in the ACAD community.
The mentorship positions will be split into two separate positions to accommodate for a shared workload and supportive team philosophy.
THE DETAILS
This is a part-time position with a schedule of up to approximately 10 hours per month, with a compensation of $375.00 honorarium per semester. The position will commence October 2, 2018 and continues until December 15, 2018.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Mentor A
- Support the creation of program promotional materials such as postcards and posters
- Coordinate studio visit schedule with all participants
- Install artist statements for the final exhibition
Mentor B
- Format all written work required for the exhibition
- Coordinate the photography schedule for all residency participants
- Create and install vinyl for the exhibition
Joint Responsibilities
- Develop meeting agendas to cover required information and discussion points with participants
- Perform studio visits with participants to support the development of work
- Facilitate the installation and striking of the final exhibition
- Generate a safe and supportive environment for participants
- Create joint testimonial to be included in the program catalogue
- Facilitate residency program group meetings
- Communicate respectfully with participating students

- Ability to multi-task and handle multiple deadlines
- Enthusiasm to exceed performance expectations

Call for Residency Submissions: ACADSA Hear/d Residency

ACAD Students’ Association is seeking applications for the Fall 2018 Hear/d Residency program. Part of the ACADSA mandate is to provide professional development opportunities for students while also helping to facilitate the development of a strong student artist community + culture. The ACADSA Hear/d Residency invites individuals and collectives from all discipline areas at the Alberta College of Art + Design to work together to collaborate on the research, development, creation and curation of an exhibition.
The residency will have its own central theme of resilience, relating to the journey of mental health issues currently experienced by many post-secondary students. Setting aside time to focus on mental health is important – to you and those who care about you. Life is full of change, risks and challenges. SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
The application process is entirely electronic. Direct email and paper submissions will NOT be accepted. Due to the number of submissions received, the quantity of support material in the application is restricted. The jury will not review additional materials beyond the required documents. All documentation must be submitted through the online submission form:

- Statement of interest:
- Discuss how the theme of this program relates to your current artistic practice and the broader context of your work, research, and interests.
- Outline your interest in the program and understanding of the importance of mental health support.
- Curriculum Vitae: Describe your creative background to a maximum length of two pages. Please include all relevant contact information and a personal website, if applicable.
- Support: Please submit up to ten pieces of additional support material, including digital images, videos, or audio clips with a corresponding numbered image list. Our programming committee will review up to a maximum of five minutes of time-based work.
Images must be RGB .jpg files with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels at 72 dpi and no larger than 1 MB in size. ACADSA accepts links to video and audio work hosted online.
