Vice-President of Academic Affairs – Kayla Gale

Vice President of Academic Affairs – academic.sa@auarts.ca

Office Hours: TBD

Hey! I’m Kayla. You might have recognized me from.. seeing me around school sometimes. I’m a 4th year Jewellery and Metals major, I’m a mentor in the Aahwaatkamooksi Peer Mentorship program which runs out of the Lodgepole Center, and you’re not gonna believe this but there’s more to my identity than that! I have to keep this bio to a similar format to the other people for aesthetic/cohesion purposes though, soo…

Anyway, as the Vice President Academic it’s my intent to stand up for the student voice/interest among all the relatively boring meetings that happen in the governance of this school. [To be clear, I don’t find these meetings boring, but I can tell by seeing the interest levels in some of the people who attend them that they are “relatively boring”. And maybe it’s just that I’m only invited to the ”relatively boring” ones.]

My primary goal in these meetings is to ensure students are recognized as capable beings, customers, and the largest stakeholder of this institution, whose demands are important [you know, supply/demand, or something like that]. So bring me your voices and I will channel them!

I’m committed to promoting equity and diversity on campus, as well as fostering a community of students with a thorough understanding of/respect for mental health. [ADHD over here, need studying tips? lmk].

The Vice-President of Academic Affairs serves as the official advocate for student concerns in all areas of institutional academic affairs.

Vice-President of Student Life – Jamie Russett

Vice President of Student Life – studentlife.sa@auarts.ca

Office Hours: TBD

Hi! My name is Jamie Russett (she/her) and I am in my 4th year at AUARTS, happily residing in the drawing program. My work is abstract and resides somewhere in the grey zone between drawing and sculpture. I love to work with themes of labour and ritualistic repetition, with my research rooted in feminist theory. I also love to try and incorporate performance into my practice wherever I can.

Mental health programming is of special interest to me and my experience with the HEAR/D residency was initially what drew me to working with our Student Association. I ran for the position of Vice President of Student Life because of the positions focus on student experience, community, and culture. My goal for the year is to continue building a welcoming and inclusive community through open communication and programmed events that focus on mental and physical wellness – while acting as an advocate for our student body during this unique time we find ourselves in.

I am always searching for new ways to engage our student body through experiences that feel worth investing our limited energy into (we are all students and we are all tired… How can we facilitate something that both energizes us and brings us together?) If you have any suggestions, questions or inquiries regarding the work I do for our student body or have something to share about your experience with AUARTS, feel free to send me an email.

Vice-President External Relations – Chloe Collins

Vice President of External Affairs – external.sa@auarts.ca

Office Hours: TBD

Hello! My name is Chloe Collins. I am a 4th year ceramics major at AUArts. This year I want to promote and encourage greater mentorship opportunities between Alumni and current students to bridge the gap between emerging and established artists and craftspeople. My primary focus as VP External is on provincial and federal student advocacy.

I am very passionate about student advocacy. This year is especially challenging considering the current political climate in Alberta. With that in mind, I am highly engaged with the Ministry through ASEC to ensure that AUArts Students have their voices represented on a provincial level.

My typical responsibilities include government relations and advocacy. As a member of Alberta Students Executive Council Board of Directors, I meet regularly with the minister of Advanced Education and advocate for the unique interests of AUArts Students. I work to foster mutually beneficial relationships between AUArts SA, AUArts, CSA and other student unions and politically adjacent groups.

I currently sit on the Board of Directors for ASEC. I am also the chair for Calgary Student Alliance and a member of AUArts SA’s Policy Committee.
