Artist Statement + Biography:

Strike, Dear Mistress focuses on the subject of female sexual agency and the reversal of socially constructed gender roles. Through a playful and satirical approach, images of the body are re-contextualized and observed by the watchful eye of a strong and confident female figure. Taking departure from traditional expectations and assumptions, Strike, Dear Mistress explores the role of the dominant woman, an uncanny position occupied by few due to socio-cultural limitations and boundaries forced upon women globally. The work highlights a reciprocal exchange of intimacy, pain and lust, founded on a relationship built on deep trust, respect and devotion.

Step into my playground.

Josefina Rodriguez is an Argentinian artist living in Calgary, Alberta, Treaty 7 Territory. She is a figurative artist, working primarily in ceramics, sculpture, drawing and painting. Her current practice and research focuses on eroticism and sexuality, from a feminine and personal perspective.
